Lab assignment 1 (due Wednesday, Jan. 25) *** SLBD stands for the book "Statistics: Learning by Doing." *** *** SAWA stands for "Short Answer Writing Assignment" *** Please read lab session 1 (pages 4-14 of SLBD) BEFORE coming to class on Friday. I. Answer SAWA questions 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10 (in complete sentences). II. In this lab session, we have seen one method for detecting outliers. Often once an outlier is detected, the statistician will remove that outlying value from the data before analyzing (computing averages, etc.) the entire data set. In a brief paragraph, discuss the benefits and/or drawbacks to the practice of omitting outliers from a data analysis. (You can think about other hypothetical data sets, not merely the one studied in this lab session.)
