STAT 705 Spring 2009 ------------------ Homework 3 ---------- Do the following problems from the textbook: 17.1, 17.2, 17.3, 17.9(b,c), 17.10(a,b,f), 17.15(a), 17.30, 17.31, 18.3, 18.5(a,b), 18.6(a,b), 18.12. NOTE: Problems 17.9, 17.10, 17.15, 18.5, 18.6, and 18.12 require analysis using a computer package such as SAS or R. NOTE: For 17.10(a), do a "bar graph" or "main effects plot" rather than a "line plot". HINT: For 17.30, change the notation in Appendix A from Y_1, Y_2,... and Z_1, Z_2,... to Y_11, Y_12,... and Y_21, Y_22,... Also, use the expression in the first equality of (16.38) on page 696 to show that, in the situation of problem 17.30, s^2 in (A.63) on pg. 1309 is equal to MSE. NOTE: In 17.31, you may derive formula (17.30) for the case in which the factor levels have equal sample sizes. NOTE: For 18.5(a,b) and 18.6(a,b), simply do the residual plots (vs. fitted values), the normal Q-Q plots, and the Shapiro-Wilk test for normality of errors, and comment on your findings. The "Questionnaire Color" and "Rehabilitation Therapy" data sets are given on the course web page. Please write your answers neatly and clearly!
