The textbook doesn't fully cover several of the topics for STAT 515 at the appropriate level. Below are links to .pdf documents that supplement the material in McClave and Sincich 13th edition. Most, or all, of the following supplements may be required reading for your section of the the course.
Supplement to Section 4.5 - The Poisson Distribution
Covers how the Poisson distribution can be constructed using the binomial distribution, adjusting the lambda parameter to solve problems, and some notes on the assumptions of the Poisson process.
Supplement to Section 5.6 - The Exponential Distribution
Covers the relationship of the exponential distribution to the Poisson distribution, with some example problems.
Supplement to Section 6.3 - Sampling Distributions for Normal Populations
Discusses the t, chi-squared, and F distributions and their use as sampling distributions for the mean, variance, and ratio of two variances for samples from a normal population. Most of the last 2/3rds of the semester is built using these tools.
Supplement to Chapter 7 - Confidence Intervals
This supplement explains how the confidence intervals for the mean, variance, and ratio of two variances are constructed just using the sampling distributions from the Supplement to section 6.3. It shows how all intervals are made in essentially the same way.
Supplement to Section 8.6 - The Exact Binomial Test
This explains how you can conduct a test about a single proportion just by using the binomial distribution, without having to use the central limit theorem. And shows that the approximation in the book would actually give you a different (and incorrect) conclusion at the alpha=0.10 level for one example.
Supplement to Section 8.7 - Power Curves
This supplement briefly explains how to graphically represent the power of a test in a single easy to read figure.
Supplement to Section 10.2 - The ANOVA Table
This supplement discusses some of the details of the Analysis of Variance Table, expanding on what is given in the book and foreshadowing much of STAT 516.
Supplement to Section 11.3 - Checking Regression Assumptions
This supplement discusses how to check the four regression assumptions given at the beginning of Section 11.3. This otherwise isn't covered until Chapter 12 where it assumes you've discussed several more topics.
Supplement to Section 11.4 - The ANOVA Table for Regression
Briefly demonstrates how the ANOVA table for regression follows the same logic as the one for comparing means in the Supplement to Section 10.2.
Supplement to Section 13.3 - The Chi-square Test for Homogenetiy
Summarizes how the expected value for the degrees of freedom are calculated for the test for indepedence, and then introduces the test for homogeneity and shows the calculations for it.
Supplement to Section 14.3 - More on Nonparametric Methods for Two Independent Samples
The first portion of this supplement provides more information on the rank sum test for two independent samples, including some of its history, information about the null hypothesis it tests, and a note on how it compares to the t-test in terms of power. The last portion of the supplment introduces the resampling test for two independent samples that is based on reallocation.
